Michele Mattox, MS, LCSW

Michele is credentialed through the UNC- Child and Family Evaluation Program to complete Child and Family Evaluations, assessing the presence of abuse and neglect in families.  Prior to joining Carolina Care and Counseling, she also conducted forensic interviews with children that had disclosed sexual abuse, as part of the Child Medical Evaluation Program.

Michele has experience working with a variety of individuals including those with special needs, at-risk children and families, sexual assault survivors, and individuals experiencing emotional and/or behavioral disorders from preschool age to midlife.  She provides one-on-one and family counseling to preschool-early elementary age children, assisting them in the development of social and emotional skills.  She also works with adolescent females experiencing depression, anxiety, self-injurious behaviors, and self-esteem issues. 

Michele received her BS in Psychology and a Minor in Spanish from UNC-Wilmington.  She went on to complete her Master of Social Work degree at Michigan State University.  She has volunteered as a gymnastics coach with Special Olympics, as a camp counselor at a bereavement camp for children, and as a co-facilitator for a men’s domestic violence group.  She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC).  Michele enjoys helping others and being involved in community organizations.  She joined Carolina Care and Counseling in October 2009.
