Gillespie Stedding, Psy.D.  

Gillespie Stedding specializes in forensic psychological evaluations to assess competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, substance abuse evaulations and provide attorney consultations and adult and juvenile cases. In addition, Dr. Stedding is available to conduct Child and Family evaluations for the Department of Social Services.

Dr. Stedding is also experienced in conducting psychoeducational evaluations to assess intellectual needs and psychological functioning.

Dr. Stedding sees individual adults and children in  psychotherapy. She specializes in traumatic stress, PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, and the psychological effects of traumatic life events. Her approach is individually tailored to meet client's needs.  

Dr. Stedding completed her B.S. in psychology from Vassar College and received her Psy.D. Having concentrated in forensic psychology, Dr. Stedding is aware of specific case law which impacts forensic evaluations and the interaction between psychology and the legal system. from Nova Southeastern University where she specialized in forensic psychology. She recently completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, North Carolina. She was responsible for conducting pre-and post-trial forensic evaluations assessing competency, insanity, and violence risk as well as facilitating competency restoration group and providing individual therapy and crisis management. She has experience working in correctional and community settings providing criminal and civil evaluations of children and adults. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, American Psychology and Law Society, and North Carolina Psychological Association.
